Murty Vepuri is a prominent figure in the pharmaceutical industry, renowned for his significant contributions over 50 years and his deep commitment to philanthropy. His academic talents led him to Loyola College for his pre-university education, and he later graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from Andhra University. Vepuri’s career began at Hoechst in Mumbai, where a rotational internship provided him with essential skills in manufacturing and laboratory operations. After obtaining his Master’s degree, he worked at Bharat Salt and Chemicals in Orissa before migrating to the United States in 1977 in search of better opportunities. Starting with modest positions such as cleaning tablet machines, he quickly advanced through the ranks in major pharmaceutical companies, including PurePack and Barr Labs. His strategic thinking and hard work led him to join ICN Pharmaceuticals in 1978, where he began to make a significant impact.
In 1984, he embarked on an entrepreneurial journey by founding Able Labs, navigating the initial challenges, and playing a pivotal role in the generics revolution. His company achieved critical successes, notably with the approval of generic Tranxene tablets and Monistat suppositories.
Since 2003, he has served as an advisor to KVK Tech, helping to lead the development and manufacture of high-quality, FDA-approved medications. His role at KVK Tech reflects his dedication to providing affordable pharmaceutical solutions.Parallel to his professional success, he has shown a profound dedication to giving back. He established the Satyaram Health Clinic in India to offer low-cost healthcare to rural communities. He contributed significantly to educational and religious projects, including a substantial donation to the University of Kentucky’s Pharmacy Department.
